I started this story on my web page if anyone is interested in some new
fanfic. I don't have much yet but I'm planning to get as much as I've
handwritten copied onto the 'net by the end of this weekend and to also
get the sketches up as well.

If you want to read it, go to:

Enjoy!

As an impartial third party (who neither produced nor purchased this
product: The Deliverance Convention) might I say that I found KA's
original report to be specific, pragmatic and comprehensive. At times I
smiled at the straightforward reports of disorganization: anyone who has
attended many cons has shared some of those experiences - having them
all in one weekend brings to mind a slapstick comedy con film. But I am
bemused by all the subsequent bruhaha over the original innocuous
report. Perhaps the con producers need to see the event through the
eyes of a "customer" who spent, literally, thousands of dollars for the
experience.

It's said, "The truth hurts." Perhaps if the criticisms were obviously
delusional, the con producers would have laughed them off as the product
of Dorian's sick mind.
Now, I could tell from Diva's .uk suffix that she's British. Being a
Yank, from rather a rude culture, I often notice the contrast on this
list of the Austalian's extreme frankness and the Brit's more mannered
restraint. I enjoy both styles of expression and never feel threatened
by someone else's opinion, however expressed. It is, after all, simply
an opinion. It rolls off my back like water off a duck. I trust that we
all can respect the words of (Thomas Jefferson?) who said something
like: "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death
your right to say it."

I think we like the idea of women not needing men. However, the Seska do
not qualify here, either, for they need Dorian to bring them "nutrients"

For "grrl power" it's far more fun to watch the Amazon tribes in Xena /
Herc. Now those fem *don't* need men. And some of the renegade tribes
are liars, cheats, bloodthirsty beasts (ahhhhhhhhhhh). Spending a
weekend with them would be like stepping out with the National Guard is
for the guys. And those Amazons have the most awesome black spikey
feathered head-dresses (to paraphrase Ceasear: Divide a woman's
sensibility from her sense of fashion and you have her).

Yahoo seems pretty good, just joined up, but no problems so far. The
only small problem so far is that I can't send attachments, I don't
have that software. Just too lazy to get it.

It's credited to Voltaire the original (?) quote is:
"I detest what you write, but I would give my life
to make it possible for you to continue to write."
[Voltaire, in a letter to M. le Riche, Feb. 6, 1770. According
to _They Never Said It_ (Paul F. Boller & John George), OUP, 1989, p.
125, it was not Voltaire, but his biographer, Evelyn Beatrice Hall
(1868-1919) writing under the pen name S.G. Tallentyre, paraphrasing
Voltaire's attitude regarding a book censorship case in 1798. The
phrase "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death
your right to say it" is from S.G. Tallentyre _The Friends of
Voltaire_ (London, 1906), 176-205.]

Probably more information than you ever wanted. But I love Voltaire
and had to look that up.

Top Five Reasons Blood Serum Could Be Green

1. It was extracted from up the nose.

2. Lime Spider Serum - makes a change from the usual boring raspberry

3. Environmentally aware bio-degradable serum. Not tested on whales.

4. It was past its use-by date & was growing mouldly

5. It was envious of the blood in the real humans.

Actually, they borrowed the goo from "Soilent Green," since they had some
leftover from the movie and Charlton Heston didn't want to to a TV
series....

<rant>
I'm sorry, but I object to this. If being
a queer socialist feminist is politically correct,
why are we attacked so much? PC is simply
used to dismiss all leftist views, regardless
of the fact that *real* political correctness
is distinctly right of centre everywhere but in
specifically leftist circles. To quote Kaz Cooke:

"Can't we have a morotorium on the phrase "politically correct,"
punishable by cattle prod? It's just the laziest form of insult I've
ever heard. I've been accused of political correctness becuase
I don't drink coffee. For God's sake, I just don't like coffee, okay?
... The phrase is used as an all-purpose, censoring insult. "Girls
should be able to wear triousers." Ooooh, politically correct, shut
up. "It's probably a good idea not to cut down every tree in the
country. Oooh, politically correct, be embarassed about your
opinion. "Maybe black people shouldn't be spit on in the streets."
Oooh, really politically correct, go to your room."

I'm a leftist radical becuase I'm politically INcorrect,
thank you very much. After all, it doesn't exactly
help your chances of getting a job or living an
argment-free life.

If they were deproived of their guns
in order to rape and enslave them, yes,
I would still be angry, and my analysis
would still hold.

>2. Who amongst the Seska do the feminists identify?

*I* don't identitfy them as feminist, except than
in that they are able to call patriarchal oppression
when they see it. *Ben Mink* made them according
to stereotypes of feminists, which is why Pella is
evil and Kate is deluded.

>3. We know Pella was a liar and a cheat, Why should we trust anything
>she said?

Becuase we saw what happened to Kate.
Because we saw Hommick society
ourselves.

>4. What was so important Pella had to murder Cato to conceal?

Can't remember. But Pella was written
as a castrating bitch, she wasn't
spontaneously generated.

i know this is very late but i guess as i had started the damn thing
i had better finish it!!.

Okay..where did i get to ..<smile>

I have to point out that i still haven't had time to read most of the
con reports properly although I have gathered that there appears to
have been rather a lot of critiscm of the con and of the personnel
involved.
I am hoping that none of this has got nasty towards anyone, My
comments in this report were mainly written at the time and none of
the problems or disappointments i encountered over the weekend
actually ruined the con for me, i still had a wonderful time and
would have done it all over again even with the problems.

Saturday

Ah ha, Breakfast..excellent as is usual in most of the Moat House
hotels i have stayed in.
Suitably fed and watered consulted the agenda for the day :)

Went to the opening ceremony, they kept it very brief, showed the
video again with a little less sound this time !

Bits i can remember the guests saying..

Sheelagh mentioned that she had been loaned the video from Wolf 359
showing Gareth made up as Gauda Prime Blake, this to a huge roar of
approval from the hall.

Brian Croucher we were told had been involved in a minor road
accident on the way to the convention so he couldn't make it, this
was a shame but at least he wasn't hurt.

The Federation Panel was therefore just Jackie and Stephen
I couldn't believe how good SG looked, he and Jackie have a very good
rapport and the panel was very entertaining.
As usual they were asked they favourite ep's,
Jackie said 'Sand'
Stephen said Duel

I seem to remember Jackie saying she liked Sand because she got to
snog Steven Pacey and he was seriously pretty <grin>

Uh oh, my notes have gone a little haywire at this point, meaning
they seem to make very little sense !
i have got written on my note pad....

Jackie very anti BBC
Jackie very complimentary about Terry Nation
Jackie felt that the BBC should not have asked BC to take over from
SG as Travis, she felt that they should have created a new character
for him.
Stephen said he would have come back as Travis but the filming
clashed schedules with a file he was doing in the South of France,

Overall the panel was good with Jackie having the audience in
stitches with her story about being arrested for possession of cannabis
resin.
(I am sure someone could recite the whole story better than i can )

Oh as an aside i managed to get some good photo's of SG and JP in
this one , the set, which someone who's name they did tell us , but
i've forgotten, was FANTASTIC , Someone must have put in huge amounts
of work to create something like that, whoever it was deserves a
medal for devotion above and beyond the call of duty to B7.

Anyway on with the report..
After the panel they showed some footage of PD in Macbeth followed by
a short TV interview with PD and the actress playing lady Macbeth
They did tell us that it was raw footage however we saw the same
scene acted at least 4 times if not more <grin>
It was lovely to see PD and Avon addicted as even i am , the same
scene over and over was a little much for even me to take.
Eventually they showed the short interview, Goodness knows who was
interviewing and for what station but some of the questions were
plain daft, Paul handled then with ease and i have to admit he looked
very relaxed and handsome, i am sure a few attendees were wishing he
were there.
It would have been nice to have had Paul there, GT kept mentioning
him, I don't know how well they genuinely get on but it felt to me ..
and I may be wrong , that Gareth almost wished he were there even if
only to spar with !

I missed the panel with David Maloney and Chris Boucher and went to
queue for autographs, a mistake as it turned out as there was a huge
queue no room at the inn, we were give raffle tickets and told we
would have priority at the next session tomorrow morning..

So off i wandered to the Exhibition...

WOW, this was superb...what an achievement, to have so much stuff
together..
i spent hours in here
The REAL baby orac and the real (albeit a bit worse for wear) full
size orac.. this more than made up for no PD
(I love Orac, he was my favourite as a child, second only to Avon of
course)
This made the convention for me there was so much to see, someone or
several someones i think had put an awful lof of hard work into this,
they permitted us to use video cameras and to take still shots,
everyone in there was very generous with their time, Mat Irvine
especially spent hours and hours talking to fans, never seeming to
tire of explaining anything to anyone, i never saw him get agitated
or ruffled all weekend, a pleasure to talk to and listen to.

I paid a brief visit to the dealers room where i signed up for
Redemption (guess i had better start watching a bit of B5 !)
and bought Judith's filk tape and Forbidden Star 2, i have read about
half the stories so far - all excellent, review to follow when all
finished.

The afternoon panel was Gareth, David Jackson, Peter Tuddenham and
Sally Knyvette

For some reason i didn't make a huge amount of notes on this panel, i
must have been laughing too much!.

I remember that they spoke of their favourite episodes and their
first experience of acting in response to a question.

They joke with PT about him being hidden in the corner behind a
curtain and he replied, with a quip about and ' sometimes even
talking to myself ' and gave a quick Orac/Zen chat.

To a huge roar of laughter GT disappears off stage to return with a
life size cardboard cut out of PD, he puts this next to PT, i seem to
remember SK moving him later on because it was either blocking the
light or making her uneasy..something like that anyway and the cutout
moved behind the set, this was to become a regular feature whenever
GT was about, he turned up in the bar, the autograph queue..!

I remember Sally saying that he felt very inexperienced when in B7
and felt she could have stood up for herself more, she remembered
Gareth speaking up for her and Jan at the time.
It sounded as if she is still a little bit anti BBC, although she
then went on to say what fun she had had with the location filming et
etc
There were lots of anecdotes about location filming most of which i
can't remember..

The panel ended far too quickly for me , I can listen to Gareth all
afternoon, I should mention that David Jackson is lovely and very
much like Gareth in as much as i could listen to him talk for ages.
A very entertaining panel.

I didn't stay for the Sevenfold Crown panel but went back to the
exhibition.

There is still more to go on Saturday, it was going to be a long
day...

As I recall Avon *wasn't* attracted to that woman in "Assassin" -- he found her
irritating and annoying (he probably considered shooting her). It was sweet,
young Tarrant who was taken in.

Agreed; I saw absolutely no sign of his being attracted to her. He *did*
get taken in by her helpless act, though; his reaction was to overlook and
ignore her.

The brilliant, charming, patient and consummately professional Gary Russell
was, I'm delighted to say, thanked frequently and sincerely by all
concerned. His calm professionalism, whatever was thrown at him, at however
short notice, was nothing short of remarkable.

How did he wind up doing "Deliverance"? We (or more acturately, Diane)
asked him to. I'm sure everyone who saw him at the convention will agree he
did a superb job. Thanks to all who have commented upon it.

I don't think he was "smitten" with Meeghat at all. She demonstrated a trust in
him (however misplaced) and that triggered a "protective" reponse in Avon.

In her own way Meeghat had a very special kind of strength.

I took it to mean that Avon just didn't want to talk about it. Meeghat was too
strongly conditioned by training and tradition to easily be convinced that Avon
was not the god she'd been waiting for. Especially since Avon *seemed* to
demonstrate the power and knowledge she'd been led to believe the god would
possess.

I totally agree with this. Avon didn't have any time for her. I kept expecting
HER to be his first attempt at throwing someone out an airlock.

I know a couple of people, including myself, were wondering about the
two upcoming films called Merlin, and which one GT was in.

I did a little research and IMDB states that GT is in the one with
Jason Connery as Merlin, GT plays Blaze (?). Doesn't say if it's a
theatrical release.

The other one is a TV mini-series which will be on NBC (I think) with
Sam Neill as Merlin and Rutger Hauer also.

Hope this sheds some light on it.

I thought he treated her in a very gentlemanly manner. He didn't want to
destroy her whole mentality... he was flattered by her... but I don't
think he felt anything more than a gentle sympathy for a woman who'd
lived her whole life for a "faith" built on a misunderstanding of
science, a woman of beauty and grace, who nonetheless could seem no more
than a child to a man who values the mind.

Ok, everyone....here's the plan.

Any time after 3 pm is fine with me for starting the bash. I have two
friends coming, Brent and Troy Anderson with their kids, Emma (5.5) and
Nate (1.5), so they will be here in the afternoon, probably leaving in
the evening. We can end when we like.

Agenda.....

Well, I thought we could get some conference reports from Ross and
Cheryl, and perhaps some PICTURES of the conferences, England, and if
Ross has any of his homeland, that would be fantastic. And of course,
Cheryl MUST tell us about her close encounter with Paul Darrow.

Since we are a group and have decided on a name, perhaps we would like
t-shirts...just a thought...lets talk about it.

Food:

I decided on soup/salad/bread cause it seemed easy.

Penny :
Italian vegetable beef soup, seafood chowder

Chad:
Chad's infamous salad will once again make a guest appearance for the
Rabble.

Rhonda:
a Vegetarian soup

Cheryl?
Suggestion: bread of any kind or salad

Ovina?
Suggestion: bread of any kind or salad

Sandi & Chris? (are not sure if they can make it or not.)

Any new guests are welcome...as long as they bring something to eat! <G>
E mail me and we can get you initiated. <G> (Please, no alcohol.)

I have videos of Star Cops, Blake's 7, and even Thomas the Tank Engine if
we want.

Reminder: I have a dog, three cats, and 17 (no, that is not a typo)
guinea pigs...so if you have allergies you may want to bring a gas mask.

Peace,
Penny

Here are the new zines that debuted at Deliverance, for people who
would like to update their zine lists. Wow, what a haul! Six gen
fiction zines, two adult fiction zines, and a filk zine, in
addition to the con's nonfiction publications. Did I leave
 anything out?

Maybe the publishers could post information about mail-order
availability, for the benefit of interested parties who weren't at
the con? Judith P., is Stadler Link available through you?

I haven't had the chance to read any of my new zines yet, but they
look very promising. Post more reviews, please!

Also, I just noticed while looking through the Programme Guide a
mention that floor plans of the Liberator would be sold in the
exhibition hall, but I don't remember seeing them. Did anybody
else get a set? Can they still be had?
