As I recall Vila didn't even know what kind of lock it was. Avon had to explain
it to them.

Avon and 7 of 9 - intelligent, sexy, pragmatic, logical, cynical etc.
Blake and Janeway - moralistic, determined, bossy (I bet that will start trouble:)

Orac and The Doctor - "computers" with an attitude, opinionated, always right - I
could
imagine those going at it non stop!
Vila and any attractive passive female character on the Holodeck - (bet I'll get
in
            trouble for that too)
Tarrant and Torres (female engineer) - impulsive, reckless at times, confident,
Callie and Chakotay - spiritual, mystical, both were "rebels" at one time
Zen and Tubak (the Vulcan) - monotone, logical, accepting, makes you think of
philosophy
Dayna and Lt Paris (the Pilot) - can imagine them playing Captain Proton games on
the Holodeck
Gan and Neelix - now, now there is no / in there - I just mean both characters
seem to be
peaceful and get along with just about anyone:)

What do you all think - or have I just been watching Voyager too much:)

terrible TV shows I mentioned earlier).

hahahahahahaha
A recent tv blurb trumpeted the 200th episode of Voyager. ack! gag!
Why is it that such a fizzle of a show gets 4 times the episodes of a
well-written drama like Blakes 7?
And it's not dead yet! Oh Reuben, please get Ripley to hunt down Janeway
and put the Starfleet Queen out of our misery.

hahaha This idea would make good crossover universe fanfic.
plot: Janeway and Avon get marooned on a mining planet.
better: Avon, Orac and 7 of 9 get marooned on a derelict Borg ship.
best yet: Garibaldi, Blake and 7 of 9 get marooned on a pleasure planet.
(the blind leading the blind :-D )
outta orbit: Blake, Sheridan and Janeway get really drunk on soma &
Klingon blood wine (Vila named this drink a "Quiet Riot" and won second
place for the recipe in the annual Better Krocked party drinks book) and
drag race Liberator, Voyager and White Star thru the Delta Quadrant.

OK you scientific types on the list: which ship is the fastest? And
prove it by canon.

How fun it would be to sic the holier-than-thou Mimbari on satanic
Servalan.

Cally would have an interesting time of it dealing with telepaths from a
variety of races.
How fun it would be to watch Cally bring down Bester.

Could Orac get inside the Vorlan technology and mind meld?

Could the kairopan eating bugs on Kairos wrestle down the spider-like
Shadows?

Would Tarrant see the Narns as raw material to cook up some green turtle
soup?

Only the fanfic writer knows for sure!

Which leaves us with a dilemma. What Jim says is right, but it doesn't make
sense, in the light of what we know about Vila.

I can think of two possible explanations:

- Vila pretended not to be able to do it, because he didn't think the
mutiny had a chance, but he was too scared to say so
- Vila was a secret agent of some kind involved in a very deep plot to
unite Blake with the Liberator and for this reason it was important the
mutiny was slow to get going and ultimately unsuccessful

The same two explanations apply to 'Vila dropping the gun' which otherwise
is too ridiculous for words IMHO.

I know the first explanation is more likely in a way but I much prefer the
second. I know there have been stories written to the effect that the whole
thing was a set up. I quite like the idea that B7 is a bit like an iceberg,
there was a big plot going on of which we see only the small amount that is
revealed above the surface.

A third explanation is that he was pretending ignorance in order to draw
Avon out. At this point, Blake was just meeting his fellow inmates, and Vila
had no reason to believe that Blake would make a serious attempt to escape.
For someone who is scared, he is amazingly cheeky with Avon. True, this isn't
4th season Avon, but why would Vila risk antagonizing someone unessacarily at
the beginning of an 8 month trip?
Assuming this is a valid theory, the next question would be if Vila acted
on his own, or was in some sort of partnership with Avon at this stage. Like
the other theories, there's just not enough canon evidence, and like the Vila
as agent theories, I've seen stories featuring some prior relationship between
the two.
Now, who has theories 4-9?:-) D. Rose

eek! that would mean we would have twice as many whiny episodes of them
screwing up getting to the alpha quadrant. it's the 100th episode this
week.

because it's star trek and if it's star trek it must be good...
(this is the rational, not the reality.)

from what i hear, you only have to wait a couple more years and it'll be
done anyway... Kate Mulgrew wants to go back to the stage by 2000.

Does anyone have any photos from Chris Boucher's series 'Star Cops'?

I'm publishing 'An Instinct for Murder' and I need reference photos for
artists if anyone has any. I'd particularly like to borrow a good photo of
David Calder as Nathan Spring.

If anyone is willing to sell a photo, even better as I'd like to have one
myself.

Please contact me off-list if you have anything as I'm currently unsubscribed
due to a large backlog of work. I'll probably be back on the list in a week or
two with luck.

Judith

PS. For those who don't know, Chris Boucher was script editor for the
entire series of Blake's 7 and wrote many of the best episodes including
'Rumours of Death' and 'Blake'. The main reason I'm publishing 'An Instinct for
Murder' is because it's a cracking good SF novel in its own right and requires
no knowledge of the series that spawned it.

PPS. There is a chance that Gareth may be back at the FAB cafe in Manchester
sometime over Xmas, but nothing is certain - it was only a possibility when I
last spoke to him. He's been asked, but doesn't yet know if he'll be able to
go.
