Hi. I was raised in a family that believed in the Fair and the Wee
Folk. When you FIND something that you had misplaced or was in a
different location than you remember it being, say "Thank you,
Brownie." You will be amazed at how often you just happen to
'remember' or 'look' in just the right place to find things.

As a part of this, you have to be willing to let things go once in a
while. An occasional earring or small bit of finery going missing for
a few weeks is not a bad pay off for finding just the right gift, just
the right book, just the right parking space, just the right friend,
etc.

If whatever is missing is important, like train tickets, car keys,
check book, etc, just calmly explain (mentally if you are in public)
to the Brownies that it is important to have it back now, and they can
have something else (name it or you will wish you had) instead. It is
important to remember not to demand angrily, although urgently is
acceptable. Respectful requests get faster responses in my experience
with fewer negative consequences.

It's never been important to me whether you are thanking an actual
being, or giving your own subconscious mind permission to give you the
information fo find whatever it is that you are looking for. By
beginning with "Thank you Brownie" I was taught that you begin the
process of mutual sharing and respect.
